POWERGEN LONDON LEAGUE 1 outfit Basingstoke RFC made the most of a local authority grant to improve their existing facilities by calling in sports pitch contractors Kestrel.

The scope of works involved the construction of a full specification natural grass rugby pitch with automated irrigation plus a training area.

The pitch was graded using laser guided equipment and then drained at 5m centres. The pitch was improved with 25mm of sand ameliorated into the top 25mm of the existing soil surface.

A fully automated pop up irrigation system assisted the establishment and during the construction a secondary drainage system of sand slits were installed at 1m centres.

A comprehensive maintenance package ensured a high quality finish was achieved and the pitch was ready for use the following season.
