Sundorne Sports Village

The project at the Sundorne Sports Village in Shropshire was a challenging contract as it comprised both natural and artificial sports pitch construction.

This is where Kestrel can offer added value as they are market leaders in both disciplines.

The site comprises of 13 hectares which have been transformed from a dull uninspiring field known throughout the locality as a ‘muddy bog’ due to its poor drainage and uneven pitches into a classic example of what can be achieved by working with knowledgeable contractors.

                             Football pitch construction

Aside from the 12 natural grass pitches which were partially stripped of topsoil and re-graded, drained, topsoil re-spread and ameliorated, a full size dynamic 60mm long pile 3rd Generation synthetic surface and Multi Use Games Area were also installed.

The construction of a BMX and Skate Park showed Kestrel’s versatility.

This was a design and build project in which the main contractor engaged with Kestrel to produce the best specification possible within the budget available.

Contract value: £1, 295,500.00    

Scope of works;

• Construction of a full size stadium specification football pitch with automated irrigation.

• Complete construction, including design, earthworks, drainage installation, seeding, cultivation and establishment of 12 nr football pitches.

• One full size 60mm pile dynamic base 3rd Generation artificial turf surface including fencing and floodlighting.

• 3,000sq metre macadam MUGA suitable for tennis, basketball and netball.

• BMX track and skate park.
