Type of installation: Two nine-hole courses
Location: Guildford, Surrey
Clandon Golf, a new golf course constructed by Kestrel Contractors, has just been opened in Guildford, Surrey. The challenging new course offers two 9-hole loops and operates on a ‘Pay and Play’ basis.
It brings to reality a new concept in golf in so much as the course has no membership base, club house or external facilities and all bookings and payments are made online.
Clandon Golf has been constructed by Kestrel to the highest specification with some very challenging holes. The construction was underpinned by importing large amounts of inert fill material and as such there were extensive earthworks and ground remodelling associated with the project which was spilt over two years.
The installation of land drainage systems, greens and tee construction were carried out by Kestrel using their in-house plant and labour over the summers of 2008 and 2009.
The bunkers, which included an artificial Sportcrete construction and finishing works including fine laser grading, topsoil cultivation and seeding were also carried out by Kestrel who offered a all encompassing design and build package for the project.
The second of the two 9-hole courses is due to be ready for play in early 2011.
With a high-spec design and a beautiful environment, Clandon Golf is ideal for those who simply want to play golf without the expense and ties of club membership.

“A golf course that has been 12 years in the making. It has been a long road to get to this point where we can now open. It gives me so much pleasure to see the course developing into one of great natural beauty that will be an absolute pleasure for any golfer to play. My vision has always been ‘Jaguar golf at Ford prices’ and the whole idea is to give people who are passionate about golf the chance to play a fantastic course without burning a hole in their pockets on membership fees.”
