Type of installation: Design and build of cricket square and outfield and football pitches
Location: Eversley Sports Association, Hampshire
Kestrel tendered for via the STRI, and won a project on their doorstep which had been a vision of the Eversley Sports Association and umbrella group which encompassed the Eversley Cricket Club and many local football clubs in the district.
After much fundraising among the community chaired and driven by Michael Slater, the Football Foundation awarded the project its biggest ever sum of over £1m to allow the project to move forward.
The site for the seven new grass football pitches and a cricket square and outfield was a former landfill which was managed by Cemex. At the point of completion of the landfill element, topsoil was imported to make up the finished levels. Kestrel then relevelled and cultivated the topsoil followed by drainage installation and sand amelioration.
The pitches were seeded and handover was achieved a year later. In its first year the premium pitch won an award for Pitch of The Year! This is a testament to all parties from ESA, STRI and Kestrel who all worked in harmony to see this project delivered to the satisfaction of all concerned.
